The Scoop on: THE COMING

THE COMING

Dream Realm Award WINNER For Best Speculative Fiction Romance

I’ve always been fascinated in paranormal/the occult/science fiction--you name it. Old TV shows like “One Step Beyond”, “Outer Limits”, and “Twilight Zone” were my staples, along with Creature Features and Chiller Theatre! So having this background, it was no surprise when I started my writing career that I tackled some of the unexplained mysteries on this planet.

With THE COMING, my award-winning paranormal romantic suspense, I wanted to come up with a plausible idea to explain what was going on with the notorious Bermuda Triangle. This novel is not a typical time travel, because the hero, Jack Harrington, is a World War II fighter pilot stranded for what he believes is five years in the Bermuda Triangle. The modern-day heroine, Larissa Parish, becomes stranded there as well, and is astonished to find out that he’s her grandfather’s best friend.

IMPOSSIBLE LOVE: After scattering her beloved grandfather’s ashes in the Caribbean, Larissa Parish is swept overboard and washes up on a deserted island. She comes face to face with a man who, most impossibly, is her grandfather’s cohort from World War II. Can she learn to fully give herself to this mouthwatering 40s hunk… and also figure a way to leave this outpost in the Bermuda Triangle?

DIFFERENT GENERATIONS: Army Air Force pilot, Jack Harrington, can’t believe his good luck when he spots Larissa in the waters by his desert island. Stranded for what he believes is five years, he thinks her daft because she seems to have forgotten World War II. Can he come to terms with the news that he’s a “1940s retread” and convince himself that Larissa could love him, no matter how “old” he is?

Can logical Larissa figure a way out of the Bermuda Triangle and

take a hunky World War II pilot with her?

I’m thrilled that my paranormal romantic suspense is the WINNER of the Dream Realm Speculative Fiction/Romance award! Here is a picture of the lovely crystal trophy.

With such an honor, who wouldn’t want to party?! I set up a virtual Dream Realm Award party and, guess what? It’s still going on!!! If you’d like to stop by, just click on this link.

THE COMING has gotten wonderful reviews including many 5 Star reviews from Romance Junkies, Goodreads, and Happily Ever After. This novel has also appeared as #1 on the Fictionwise.com Best Seller List.

This book is part of the Uncanny Paranormals line.

And here’s a *little* something from my life experiences. I had the great good fortune to go to the 1965 New York World’s Fair site--not once but many times. It was a fabulous opportunity for fun and for learning. Below is a picture of a very beat-up 1965 New York World’s Fair guide book!

In THE COMING, Jack Harrington had the great good fortune to go the 1939 New York World’s Fair where he saw one of the first television sets. Wow, TV has come SUCH a long way!

I hope you enjoy this Larissa and Jack’s intriguing story.

The Scoop on “The Peloponnesian Prophecy”

If you were going to write a short story about someone plucking up her courage to go on a long, dangerous journey to help her people, what would you come up with?

I came up with this ancient Greece tale--set during the bitter war between Sparta and Athens. It pits an inexperienced young woman against a battle-hardened warrior. Hmmn. Who do you imagine will be the victor?!!

“The Peloponnesian Prophecy” is a short story of over 9,800 words. It sells for $1.99 and is now available electronically at Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, and Books2Read with its Universal Link.

While going on a dangerous journey to uncover a prophecy to save her people, a handmaiden to the goddess Athena finds true love.

Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, and Universal Link

This book is part of the Fantasy Romance line.

Here are some cool comments:

·        You’ve brought Ancient Greece to life! I love this terrific short story.--Reader Comment

·        A virgin defeats a Sparta warrior? Cool! Love how Greek myths are interwoven in this story.--Reader Comment

Real life snippet: Growing up, I always enjoyed Roman and Greek myths. I still do, and I’ve written a few novels and short stories concerning these tales and individuals from antiquity. In ninth grade I first read the Greek epic poet Homer’s famous poem “The Odyssey”. My diary entry for that particular day was “I like ‘The Odyssey’.” Not especially inspiring words, but remember, I was only fifteen. :))

This “like” has lasted a lifetime. One particular phrase always stuck with me: rosy-fingered Dawn, or the Dawn arose rosy-fingered. Such a lovely image!

For those of you who are curious, my Greek/Roman collection includes:

A SESTERCE FOR HER THOUGHTS (Time-Travel Ancient Rome)

“Portia’s Diary” (Short Epistolary Narrative)

“Special Delivery” (Fantasy Romance”)

JANUS IS A TWO-HEADED GOD (Science Fiction Romance)

JANUS IS A TWO-FACED MOON (Science Fiction Romance)

THE AWAY PLACE (Fantasy Romance)

And, of course, “The Peloponnesian Prophecy.”

I hope you enjoy Rissa and Thantos’ Ancient Greece story!

The Scoop on the Science Fiction Short Story, “Adolescence”

I have to admit the origin of “Adolescence,” my coming-of-age science fiction short story is murky in my memory. I have no idea why I decided to write a tale about a teenaged alien’s angst. Maybe it was because I had my own young fleshling at home. Weird! Anyway, I do know that in 2002, I submitted this short story to an internet website no longer in existence for consideration in their Qwik Fics line. The editor loved the story, saying it was very original and “I’ll never look at the beach creatures the same again!”

After publication, I was free to re-publish “Adolescence”. It’s almost 800 words and sells for $0.99. Yep, another very short story. I’ve now re-released “Adolescence” electronically at Amazon.com, Smashwords.com, and Universal Link!

Never doubt an alien fortuneteller! Shandelle is a happy-go-lucky teenager who is preoccupied with normal teenager concerns. But what will she do when she learns that her perfect world will soon come to an end?

Amazon.com, Smashwords, and Universal Link.

This short story is part of the Fascinating Science Fiction line.

Here are a few review comments:

·        I truly intrigued by the unique blend of teenage innocence and cosmic prophecy. Shandelle's carefree world, quietly shadowed by an alien fortuneteller's warning, unfolds with an elegant balance of whimsy and tension. The story's quiet revelations and light speculative touch make it both charming and subtly profound. The writing reveals your gift for layering light romance with unexpected depth in just a few pages.--Book Agent

·        This was a most enchanting read.--Romance At Heart

·        Cute story. You have the greatest imagination.--Reader Comment

·        [Adolescence] is a very original story; certainly I’ll never look at the beach creatures the same again!”--Editor

Real life snippet: As I mentioned above, when I wrote this short tale, I had a teenager at home, just as Shandelle’s parents do. And if you’re familiar with parenting, complaints about mom and dad can be everyday occurrences! Shandelle is no different, as we see in the below comment:

Parents! What a useless breed! All they ever did was shake their pincers and moan, “Just you wait until it is your time.”

Shandelle snorted. Her time was now!

I hope you enjoy Shandelle’s coming-of-age story!

Here are some fabulous reviews:

5 Stars... or 10! Absolutely love this book. Love this series! Juggling everybody’s needs except her own, Sedona is in the middle of one big summer mess. This is the book where she (hopefully) makes her choice: Team Harrison or Team Doug. And oh, what swoon-worthy men those two are! Filled with of action, suspense, great characters, and of course a dead body or two, PUSHES UP DAISIES covers all bases. As to which flavor of candy Sedona selects, be sure to pick up your copy to find out!--Mystery Maven’s Reviews

5 Stars! This is number three in the three book Sedona West Mystery Series. While this book can be read without the first two, it’s enjoyable to get the full multiplex experience of everything the characters go through. I thoroughly enjoyed reading how Sedona rebuilds her life after an acrimonious divorce, solves a few murders, and gets wined, dined, and wooed by two delicious men. Lucky Sedona! And lucky us, the readers!--Norwood Reviews

Now for my “Tidbit From Real Life”: so, not actually from “real” life, but it concerns something from Star Trek, one of my all time favorite TV shows... and movies. After Star Trek’s three seasons, the mystery of what the “T” stands for in James T. Kirk is finally revealed. The “T” is for Tiberius... a most unusual name.

In PUSHES UP DAISIES, Sedona sees Sheriff Doug’s nameplate and wonders what does the T. stands for in Dugan T. Marino.

Doug says, “I wish I could say T. stands for Tiberius, but I can’t. It’s Thomas.”

Her reply. “I like Thomas. But it’s too bad you can’t be an emperor of Rome. Or even Admiral James T. Kirk.”

Just a bit of fun! I hope you enjoy Sedona West’s adventures!
