We Have Ignition!

Yes, that's right! My WIP, ForEvver, is now finished and I'm a happy camper. :)) The next step is to let the manuscript sit awhile. Then I'll reread the story, looking at it with fresh eyes. I'll be seeing if all the questions are answered, if there are any logic problems, missing information, etc. Plus I get to enjoy the entire book once again! Once I'm satisfied, then ForEvver is off to the publisher's. I'll keep you posted on when you can expect this science fiction romance to become available for your reading pleasure!

My WIP, ForEvver, is going into extra innings! Meaning only a chapter or two more to go. So let's talk about the Book-of-Week while the final chapters of ForEvver come together.

Have Christmas Card... Will Travel uses the Twelve Days of Christmas song to tell the story. A magic Christmas card sends lonely Meredith back in time... then returns her to her own century each morning. A handsome lord proposes, and she accepts, but then finds herself attracted to her fiancé’s honorable brother. How can she find happiness when she has one foot in the past with the other in the present? And what will happen when the twelve days of Christmas are over?

Romance Writing With A Twist Factoid: Originally, this story was set up to be a serial novel. Each week, a new chapter--corresponding with the twelve days of Christmas, would've been sent to subscribers, ending with Chapter Twelve: Twelve Drummers Drumming. In the end, Have Christmas Card... Will Travel was published all-in-one, and was the EPPIE Finalist for Best Historical Romance in 2008!!

The Final Stretch

I'm getting really, really close to finishing my WIP, ForEvver, and boy, am I pumped! I'm at the final confrontation: will the guy get the girl; will good win out over evil; will the nation be secure??

(Anyone recognize "the nation is secure"? It's a line from a old TV adventure show. I use it at my house when everybody's home in the evening and the house is locked up for the night. The TV show? Do you remember The Avengers?)

Anyhoo, our antagonist, Dr. Evver, is intent on proposing to the heroine. He flashes the biggest engagement ring ever created. I had this picture in mind when describing the diamond:

Yep, that's a piece of ice, all right. Our intrepid hero jokes that if he saw the ring in full sunlight, it would've blinded him!

Diamonds aren't everything, though. And very often bigger isn't necessarily better.

I've got to get back to the action now. It's almost lunchtime, and our characters are headed for Little Italy in Manhattan, or rather in New Tri-Metropolis. Something tells me that a bowl of pasta is in their future!

Neanderthals' Nemesis

While our intrepid hero and heroine get, ahem, better acquainted in my WIP, ForEvver, I thought I'd write a little about the book-of-the-week, Competitors!

Competitors! deals with Neanderthals, and the supposition that maybe our nearest human relatives aren't extinct at all. This paranormal romantic suspense is actually a mystery too, with a serial killer on the loose--a killer who just happens to collects skulls.

Romance Writing With A Twist Factoid: Competitors! was written with a certain neighborhood in the Bronx in mind. The neighborhood I grew up in! Here's a picture of the elementary school that Joel "The Dumpster" Levine attends.

Also, the apartment where Vivianne Quinn recuperates from her car accident is an apartment near and dear to my heart. In the novel, the "high, side tables boasted of pea green, potbellied lamps" owes its genesis to this picture:
